Imagine someone taking a 500 ton truck and dropping it on your heart. (ouch right) Imagine that this truck is just sitting on your heart, crushing it minute by minute. Sounds so painful to even imagine right? When we hold on to hurt, resentment, pain, that others have caused us, this is what we’re doing to our hearts. We’re holding it down, and filling it up with hate, bitterness, sadness ,hurt, and eventually we’re bound by those scars. “To forgive is to set a prisoner free, and discover that the prisoner was you.”
We think forgiveness means that the other person won. But believe me the only person who has won is you. When we hold on to hurt, we are giving people power over our emotions. We are giving them power over our hearts, they are controlling how we feel, and how we love. The hold is so powerful that we become prisoner to that pain. We won’t let love come in because someone has left our hearts bruised. So bruised that live life scared and fearful. When we forgive the people that hurt us we are setting our hearts free.
Forgiveness is freedom. And I mean that in every single way possible. Nobody should ever have power over the way you feel. No one should ever have the power to make you live your life afraid to take chances. Your heart should never have to suffer because of someone else’s mistreatment of it. Holding on to negative feelings and energy holds us captive. It stops the good that the universe has for us. And you deserve to have all the good that life has to offer you. Your soul deserves peace. And forgiveness doesn’t make you weak, it sets you free.
